Kirkby Lonsdale & Lune Valley Community Interest Company (CIC) are looking for a Manager to manage the Information & Gift Shop on Main Street in Kirkby Lonsdale.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the Kirkby Lonsdale community, developing the CIC’s presence on the high street. The role involves running the Shop in the centre of town and managing a team of dedicated volunteers who staff the shop. Sales generate funds for the information service and local amenities. The shop also promotes and sells the work of local craftspeople. Additionally, it hosts a free interactive and informative installation called The Vault which tells the stories of Kirkby Lonsdale.
Tasks will include:
- Making decisions on stock levels, stock range, and pricing
- Recruiting, training and supporting a team of volunteers who staff the shop, encouraging their contribution to ideas and improvements
- Building footfall and increasing profit
- Ensuring the shop is a welcoming, practical environment which encourages sales
- Holding special promotions, displays and events and promoting our exclusive attractions, The Vault, and guided walks
- Working with Cumbria Tourism and other agencies to promote the shop and the town
- Encouraging local suppliers, especially craftspeople, to use the shop as an outlet
- Authorising payment of invoices received and issue invoices as required
- Gathering and using customer feedback to improve our service
The post-holder will be directly responsible to the CIC Board working through a nominated Director. The position is for 30 hours per week with flexible working days but must include some weekend working. We would consider appointing two people on a job share basis. The post-holder(s) will be based at the shop. Salary could be up to £25,000 depending on experience. This is a temporary contract initially for twelve months but with a view to making it permanent

The CIC is a not-for-profit company set up to take over the running of local amenities which were at risk of closure. We work closely with our community to promote and facilitate events and bring visitors to the town.
