New Year – New Beginnings

Happy New Year
I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish all our members, partners, funders, stakeholders and clients a very happy New Year.
I am sure that 2017 will bring many opportunities and challenges for us all. We will enjoy the opportunities, and we will embrace the challenges and work to turn them to our advantage!
Here at Cumbria CVS, we are looking forward to a number of new opportunities in 2017.

New CEO
Well, this may be the last Ebulletin article that I write as Chief Officer of Cumbria CVS, as my successor has been appointed and will start on 1 February 2017. After a comprehensive and dare I say, enjoyable recruitment process, our trustees appointed Laura Cadman as the new Chief Executive Officer of Cumbria CVS. I will remain in post until 31 March so there will be plenty of time for a smooth transition.
I am sure you will join me in welcoming Laura to Cumbria CVS – and that you will all play your part in helping her settle into her new role. I will let Laura tell you more about herself in the next edition – so please watch this space!

Funding Update and News & Events from Other Organisations

Community Choices
This is a new scheme from Sellafield Ltd. It is aimed at offering not-for-profit organisations the chance to apply for grants for their charity/community group – with the public ultimately deciding who gets the money. Applications have been submitted and a number of projects have been shortlisted. You now have until Sunday 26 March 2017 to cast your votes – winners will be announced Friday 31 March 2017.

CVS Volunteer Training

New Training for 2017

Task Supervisor Training
The floods of December 2015 brought out the very best in people throughout Cumbria, with a huge volunteer response.  We are now looking to help volunteers/ individuals better support their local community to respond effectively in future emergencies.

If you are you interested in helping your community respond to emergencies and would be willing to lead a small group of volunteers, then this session is for you.
Becoming a Task Supervisor will equip you with the skills and knowledge to take charge of and look after a small group of volunteers who will be involved in carrying out a range of practical task before and after an emergency.
