So, you’re a volunteer who loves what you do, you have benefitted from volunteering personally and feel privileged to make a real difference to the community in which you volunteer. You want to get your story out and let people across the general public hear what you have to say. Maybe you can inspire them to volunteer too and join the cause! But you don’t know where to start. You’re not a techy person, you are worried about tripping over your sentences, or lacking the confidence to go for it. THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU!

This is a practical hands on / “guerrilla” digital media session for on the fly production of content suitable for quick turnaround and social media use (not glossy cinema-quality films!). The session will give participants a basic understanding of digital media production processes and be able to produce media with their own, or their organisation’s devices and media equipment.

The course will cover the following Session Areas:

1. Telling the Story – Covering both narrative and technical aspects of what you need to plan and think about before you start producing anything.

2. Recording – How to get the best out of your devices and the situations you may find yourselves in; looking out for common mistakes and pitfalls around both sound and vision.

3. Making – This part will look at the various options you have for making media into a coherent piece and how you can best deliver this to your audience.

Digital devices will be available for use during the session, but you are encouraged to bring along your own mobile phone / tablet / laptop so that you can learn the skills which will be most useful to take away with you.

By the end of the session you will have produced a video which you can use on your own social media to promote your amazing work, and which CVS can use to share your story even wider.

Maximum of 2 spaces available per organisation. Please book by 24th October.

This event is part of our This Is Us project, made possible by Westmorland and Furness Council through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Priority for bookings will be given to volunteers and staff in organisations in Westmorland and Furness which are Cumbria CVS Members.
