We would like to take this opportunity to share some postive stories relating to Covid-19 highlighting community spirit, volunteering and people just getting stuff done!

COVID-19 Response Efforts

The Burton-in-Kendal Community Meals service has been running for a number of years. A dedicated group of volunteers deliver hot food 3 times a week to elderly & vulnerable villagers. The food is kindly prepared by Pam at the Smithy Inn at Holme. In early March 2020 the service was under threat due to the Covid-19 crisis. All but one of the regular volunteers is aged over 70. Some also have underlying health conditions. The need for them to self-isolate for their own health meant the delivery of meals was under real threat. A number of other Community Meals services across Cumbria had the same urgent need for extra volunteers.

Through the help of Cumbria CVS a large number of new volunteers were found quickly for Community Meals groups across Cumbria. Within a few days the Burton-in-Kendal community meals group had 7 new volunteers – ensuring the continuation of their vital service.

“The Cumbria CVS team were so helpful and professional. I’m delighted to say that with the new help they found for us our rota is now full until mid-May, and beyond.”

Well done to all concerned #TogetherWeCan
