A confidence-boosting alpaca experience
June 29, 2022
My Future participants attended an organised Alpaca and Llama Experience recently as part of a programme of activities.
This was a confidence boosting activity for the participants, who had the opportunity to meet and greet alpacas, feed them, and go on an alpaca and llama trek.
Project participants said that they thoroughly enjoyed learning about the animals, how they socialise with each other, and are cared for in their environment. One participants stated “I enjoyed the activity very much and meeting new people”. Another advised that “Trying new things is okay and the activity has improved my confidence”.
Participants said this was a different activity opportunity and not something they would have attended if not on the project, so really appreciated being able to take part, meet new people and gain confidence around the animals.
The My Future: Barrow and SouthLakeland project seeks to provide support and work with individuals who are facing multiple and complex barriers to employment and who are furthest removed from the labour market.
It helps them to move towards and into employment by supporting them to play a greater, more productive role in their communities, demonstrate increased skills and confidence and be much more likely to consider employment or volunteering as a viable prospect.
