Keeping Patients Connected

Cumbria CVS and North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) Volunteer Information Session

Friday 30 April 2021

11am-12noon online via zoom

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of patients and their relatives during the pandemic? Do you want to ease pressure off ward staff in a practical way? Join an exciting new project called Keeping Patients Connected.

With hospital visits being largely suspended and additional COVID restrictions in place, we are seeing an increase in phone calls and requests from families who are looking to speak with their relatives in hospitals. As part of the Keeping Patients Connected project, wards across the county have received iPads and mobile phones which will enable families to communicate via video calls and direct phone conversations.

This is where we need you. Volunteers will be going on to the wards and will be able to assist patients to use iPads to connect with their families – a vital aspect of a patient’s wellbeing and recovery. In a time which is filled with much uncertainty, you will be part of a team of volunteers who will form part of a wider holistic support approach for patients.

Volunteers will:

Support patients to keep in contact with their family members via the use of an iPad

Support ward staff with providing updates to family members as directed by the ward manager/ nurse in charge on duty

Volunteers will be on inpatient wards in the Cumberland Infirmary, West Cumberland Hospital and Community Hospitals in North & West Cumbria and ideally need to provide one morning or afternoon per week.
