January 19, 2022
Date: Wednesday 19th January 2022
Time: 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
This month we have Helen Attewell from Cumbria Action for Sustainability joining the forum to talk about Community Climate Grants and the Cold to Cosy Homes initiative:
The presentation will:
- Outline the opportunities provided by a new Community Climate Grant for Cumbrian groups (administered via CAfS).
- Give an input on Cold to Cosy Homes and how this service can be accessed.
- Provide some suggestions on how VCFSE groups can engage with sustainability issues and reduce their carbon emissions.
Helen joined Cumbria Action for Sustainability in April 2021, as part of the National Lottery funded Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership team. Cumbria Action for Sustainability – often know as CAfS – is a long-standing charity which has a mission to empower and enable people, communities and businesses to live and work more sustainably by sharing knowledge, practice, skills, networks and practical experience.
CAfS also hosts the Cold to Cosy project which offers FREE energy saving advice and equipment to make homes warmer and saving money on heating bills as well as doing their bit for the planet by using less energy.
About the presenter, Helen Attewell:
Helen has worked in a variety of different voluntary sector and campaigning organisations.Following a degree in natural sciences, Helen began her career as a science teacher. She has spent some time volunteering overseas in Bangladesh and in rural Lesotho, where she developed an awareness of how climate change will disproportionately impact the poorest and most vulnerable. Most recently, she has led a criminal justice charity in the North East.
Helen’s new role is to support the network of locally-based sustainability groups across Cumbria, which are working to promote awareness of climate change and to develop practical projects which will help cut carbon and encourage people to change their behaviour and act in a more carbon-conscious way.
