Inspiring Barrow celebration
December 22, 2022
Our Inspiring Barrow Kickstart programme works with children who have been identified by schools as needing assistance in improving self-confidence, communication skills, self-efficacy, self-esteem and team work.
The team completed the Year 6 programme earlier this month with a celebration evening at The Forum (Barrow) for all the children from the programme and their families.
A crowd of 270 were on hand to see the children receive accolades for their work and certificates of participation, with five chosen for additional recognition for exceptional improvement in communication, resilience, teamwork, leadership, and confidence.
The awards were presented by Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Anne Diss, who praised the children for their efforts. Guest Speaker for the evening was Josie Stewart from Transparency International, an organisation committed to ensuring the sales of weapons between countries and armies remains free from corruption.
David Allen, our CEO, was present along with colleagues Ali Greenhalgh (South Cumbria Manager) and Nat Wealleans-Turner, (My Future Manager) adding their support to the evening, which finished with a collection for SAFA (Self Harm Awareness for All) with £279.29 raised, which will be match funded locally by HSBC Bank.

The team have already begun to recruit for next term when we will begin working with Year 8 children from across five secondary schools (Walney School, Furness Academy, St Bernard’s RC High School, Dowdales, and Ulverston Victoria High School) where the focus will turn to working together to enact change in the community, with a poster campaign addressing issues facing young people.
