NORTH CUMBRIA NHS area – Consultation re changes to Yewdale Provision launched
Many of you will have seen recent press reports about ‘risk of closure’ of Yewdale Ward the mental health in-patient ward at West Cumberland Hospital.
Denise Majer in her role as Chair of Cumbria Mental Health Provider Forum has received the attached letter about this matter from CNTW Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
It is important that our sector gets involved in the consultation and shares the information about the consultation broadly with staff, volunteers and people who use our services.
Please do read the letter. We would suggest that you pay particular attention to the section towards the end entitled Engagement Process (see text below). This section provides links and details about how to get involved in the consultation process including a survey.
Engagement process
Although no formal decisions have been taken in relation to any future changes to the provision of mental health adult acute inpatient services in West Cumbria including the future of Yewdale Ward, we are writing to you as part of our engagement process to seek your views. We have developed some frequently asked questions in Appendix A which outlines the current situation, the rationale for change, and any impact of future service change. We have also developed an online survey available here which we are encouraging our partners and stakeholders to share with their constituents and communities. This period of engagement also includes discussions with service users, carers and staff within CNTW, to provide an opportunity to discuss our plans for ensuring continued high quality and safe care.
More information and an online survey can be accessed via our website We want your thoughts on mental health services in Cumbria – Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
Organisation who would like to discuss the plans further and who wish to raise thoughts, contributions or concerns can contact:
westcumbriaengagement@cntw.nhs.uk
Cumbria Mental Health Provider Forum are keen to organise opportunities for members to meet with staff from CNTW as part of the consultation. We will let you know as soon as we have arranged a meeting.
COPELAND area – Copeland Primary Care Network
