How you can help us
We want to build partnerships between public sector bodies and voluntary agencies, to make best use of the resources, ideas, and skills we all have.
We want to improve representation of the voluntary sector across public sector bodies – and vice versa.
We want to improve our sector’s impact in tackling the entrenched financial, health and social inequalities that exist in our society and you can be at the forefront of this critical work.
We want to communicate more effectively: not only about our own services, challenges and successes, but those of the wider sector and Cumbrian communities.
We want to take our next digital steps in our service delivery – and help other organisations to make best use of available technology and resources – without reinventing the wheel.
And we want you to enjoy making it all happen! We believe in empowering our team to make decisions, to innovate and to celebrate success.
If you feel an affinity to our values, our culture, our ambition – and have the skills and experience to match – please get in touch: it could be the start of something very special…
Diversity
At Cumbria CVS, we are looking for people who will reflect the diversity of Cumbria ensuring that both our organisation and the sector are more relevant to and more reflective of the people, communities and places we serve.
Disabled people, those from Black Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, men and people under 30 are under-represented in our workforce and so we particularly encourage applications from people in these groups.

Disability Confident Employer
Cumbria CVS is a Disability Confident Employer and supports the ethos and aims of the programme. We are committed to inclusive and accessible recruitment processes and will guarantee an interview to disabled applicants meeting the essential criteria. We are committed to providing reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants so that we can benefit from a wide a recruitment pool as possible.
Armed Forces Covenant
Cumbria CVS is a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and holds the Defence Employers Recognition Scheme Bronze Award. We also have a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Veterans, which is a commitment that Cumbria CVS has made to support the Armed Forces Community Covenant.
This commitment is to guarantee an interview for any veterans that meet the essential criteria set out in the role profile for roles where external recruitment is required only. The scheme is not a guaranteed job for Veterans, as selection procedures will ensure the best candidate for the job is appointed, based on the objective criteria of the role profile.
Mental Health & Wellbeing
Cumbria CVS are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all of our staff. That’s why we’ve taken the Mental Health at Work Commitment and are currently delivering a programme of activities to ensure that everyone can have open and honest conversations about their wellbeing in the workplace and feel supported. We encourage applications from persons with experience of poor mental health and are committed to supporting our employees to fulfil their potential and perform at their best in work.
Living Wage Commitment
We are accredited as a Living Wage Employer.
The Living Wage commitment sees everyone working at Cumbria CVS receive a minimum hourly wage of £10.90, higher than the government minimum for over 23s, which currently stands at £10.42 per hour.
In the North West 12.5% of all jobs pay less than the real Living Wage – around 367,000 jobs. Despite this, we have committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.
The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchcmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 450,000 people and put over £2 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.
Commitment to Staff Training
We are proud of our commitment to staff training and development. We see it as important for both developing staff and volunteers’ ability to do their work as well as possible, and for their own career development.
