South Copeland stars!
February 1, 2024
Our South Copeland Development Officer, Beresford Moyle Rosser, gives us an update on what’s he’s been up to recently, and provides details of forthcoming training, events + more:
Walking on the beach at Silecroft over the weekend, I came across lots of star fish which I had not seen before and it made me appreciate the many voluntary groups we have here in South Copeland – stars in their own right!
February is a busy month here in South Copeland with some new events appearing on the calendar for the first time. I am quite excited to see how February delivers new opportunities to support the many stars we have doing such inspirational work in the area.
Last October, at a Cumberland Council Community Panel Meeting, it came to light that a lot of voluntary groups did not feel as if they were part of a wider voluntary community as there was no opportunity to network and meet each other informally. That changes on the 8th February when over 20 voluntary groups have accepted an invitation to meet at the Millom Network Centre for coffee and tea and to meet each other for the first time. I cannot wait to see them all together!
Other opportunities to meet up will be offered on a regular basis across South Copeland in Muncaster, Waberthwaite, Millom Without, Eskdale and Drigg thus creating opportunities for voluntary groups to network, share ideas and news about what they are doing and support each other in the incredible work they do for South Copeland.
If you would like to attend, you will be more than welcome. Just email me at beresfordmoyle.rosser@cumbriacvs.org.uk and I will include you on the list. The get together is at Unit 3 Millom Network Centre Devonshire Road Industrial Estate, Devonshire Rd Millom and runs from 10.00am to 12.30pm.
Hard on the heels of that event is our first Volunteer and Trustee Recruitment Fair to be held at Trackside, Millom Railway Station on the 20th February where there are 10 voluntary groups showcasing their work and volunteer opportunities for those who might be interested. It will run over the lunch time period – 12.00 to 2.00pm to allow people to pop in during their lunch break to discover what is available and register if interested.
My Drop In sessions for voluntary groups to meet me to discuss any needs they may have continues in Waberthwaite Village Hall on the 22nd February, 2.00pm to 4.00pm. This is my third session following on from the success of the drop ins that were held in Drigg and Muncaster. The kettle will be on and the biscuits out – so do pop in and say hello, have a cuppa and meet me to discuss any needs you may have.
Whether it is help to find a grant, governance issues, volunteer recruitment, setting up a charity or anything else you may be grappling with. Always here to help and it would be good to see you!
