Furness For You
Reducing loneliness across Barrow-in-Furness
10 partners based across Barrow have come together came together in 2023-2025 to deliver a free service to benefit local people struggling with loneliness.
Partners:
- Groundwork North East and Cumbria
- Age UK
- Stitchability
- Furness Multicultural Community Forum
- Women’s Community Matters
- Barrow Park Leisure
- Barrow and District Disability Association
- Brathay Trust
- Barrow Poverty Truth Commission
- Cumbria CVS
We are proud to have been one of these partners, offering help to both individuals and to organisations. We offered support with volunteering via the Cumbria CVS volunteering portal, and through a role developed especially for the project, Community Connector. As Community Connector, Cat Moffatt was able to support people by
listening to people’s needs, referring them to the most appropriate project and finding the right activity, service or volunteering opportunity.
Furness For You partners continue to offer support as a legacy of this project.
Having built a strong partnership foundation, the Furness For You ethos continues to support local communities with a neighbourhood support hub, furnessforyou.org.uk. This is managed by Cumbria CVS on behalf of Westmorland and Furness Council. It offers details of local support organisations, activities and events, and also signposting to volunteering opportunities.
