Background information
What is Integrated Care and what are Integrated Care Communities?
We are building a whole integrated health and care service here in North Cumbria with the aim that all sectors use our collective capabilities, skills, knowledge and connections to deliver improved services focused on the needs of local people.
We have used this integrated approach to build neighbourhood-based Integrated Care Communities (ICCs). These focus on local populations of 30-50,000 and bring together GPs, health and social care professionals, the third sector (voluntary and community) to work alongside the local community.
There are 7 ICCs in North Cumbria: Brampton and Longtown (Carlisle Rural), Carlisle Urban (this ICC has been recently formed from the 2 Carlisle ICCs of Carlisle Healthcare & Carlisle Network), Cockermouth and Maryport, Eden, Keswick and Solway, Copeland, Workington.
We believe that it is vital that the third sector is represented at each ICCs in North Cumbria. We lobbied successfully to gain places for 2 representatives on each ICC and recruited 16 ICC Third Sector Representatives who have been working in ICCs since January 2019. For the period 2025 to 2027 we will be once again recruiting 16 representatives 4 of the representatives will cover the Carlisle Urban ICC due to the size of the population it covers.
Our representatives sit on ICC Collaborative Leadership Groups. These groups contribute to an individual ICC’s development, service planning and priority setting.
As a third sector representative you will see first-hand how your local ICC is developing and be a part of driving this exciting work.
You will need a clear understanding of what our sector can bring locally and have the confidence to lead on putting the third sector at the heart of your local ICC and its community. You may also have a responsibility (with support from CVS staff) to drive some of the work the ICC does with their local community and those most impacted by health inequalities.
