Working in Partnership to Recruit Community Co-Researchers

I’m really excited to be working in partnership with Cumberland HDRC (Health Determinants Research Collaboration) on an important new recruitment campaign — bringing up to 16 Community Co-Researchers (CCRs) and a CCR Support Officer on board. All of these people will be employed by Cumbria CVS.

The recruitment campaign is now live and closes on 5th September, so we’re busy spreading the word and encouraging applications from people right across Cumberland.

These roles are at the heart of a truly collaborative approach to research. CCRs will be local people (living in Cumberland), rooted in their communities, helping to shape and deliver research that reflects real experiences and priorities. Instead of research being done to communities, it will be done with them — ensuring the voices of residents are heard loud and clear.

The CCR Support Officer will play a vital role in keeping things running smoothly, making sure the team is connected, supported, and able to focus on delivering great work.

Recruitment is focused on finding people with strong community links, lived experience, and a passion for making a difference. It’s not about having a research background — it’s about having insight, trust, and the willingness to learn.

For me, this partnership with Cumberland HDRC is an exciting step in building bridges between academic research and everyday community life. It’s about co-production, mutual respect, and making sure that the research we do is relevant, useful, and impactful for the people who need it most.
