South Lakes Poverty Truth Commissioners get together for the first time

Poverty Truth Commission Co-ordinator, Lois Sparling, updates us on progress with the programme:

After seven months of network and relationship building across South Lakeland – with partners, funders and stakeholders, community groups and charities across South Lakeland – a group of potential South Lakes PTC ‘Community Commissioners’ came together for the first time at the end of March.

These brave volunteers, all with personal experience of financial hardship, came from Ulverston, Windermere, Staveley, Sedbergh and Kendal to meet at Stricklandgate House for a delicious Harry’s Pantry pie and pea lunch and a chat about how to take the Poverty Truth Commission to the next stage.

The group agreed to meet every 3 weeks and hopes to draw in more recruits, especially in Ulverston, Windermere, Ambleside and the more rural areas.

Message the PTC Facebook page or email southlakesptc@cumbriacvs.org.uk if you can help!

The Poverty Truth Commission aims to enable the voice and experiences of those living in poverty to be directly heard at decision making levels, bringing about co-produced change for the better for them.
