We would like to take this opportunity to share some postive stories relating to Covid-19 highlighting community spirit, volunteering and people just getting stuff done!

COVID-19 Response Efforts

The Burton-in-Kendal Community Meals service has been running for a number of years. A dedicated group of volunteers deliver hot food 3 times a week to elderly & vulnerable villagers. The food is kindly prepared by Pam at the Smithy Inn at Holme. In early March 2020 the service was under threat due to the Covid-19 crisis. All but one of the regular volunteers is aged over 70. Some also have underlying health conditions. The need for them to self-isolate for their own health meant the delivery of meals was under real threat. A number of other Community Meals services across Cumbria had the same urgent need for extra volunteers.

Sector secures £750 million

Dear Friends and Colleagues

My message today has changed from the one I wrote yesterday, which was asking for your support to help bring about change – to join Cumbria CVS and other other local, regional and national organisations lobbying hard to get a national commitment to provide financial support to voluntary organisations throughout this crisis – however, it seems that our joint effort has resulted in a success for the sector, although whether this is far reaching enough remains to be seen.
