Writing stories with a hook
March 17, 2025
Date: Monday 17th March 2025
Time: 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Great fundraising stories serve us well, both in terms of conveying the impact we are having as an organisation and of course, when looking to secure further funding. They do, however, need to catch the readers’ attention and engage on an emotional level.
Discover how to put your beneficiaries in the centre of the narrative, capturing funders’ attention by sharing the story behind the need and highlighting why your charity is uniquely equipped to address the issue.
In this online training session, you will learn how to break down the process of placing your beneficiaries at the centre of your fundraising stories. We’ll focus on crafting compelling narratives that hook funders by illustrating the real, human needs behind your cause. Discover how to position your charity as the right solution to these needs by weaving impactful stories that bring beneficiaries to the forefront.
What we’ll cover:
- Creating a Story Log: Develop a method for organising and tracking the powerful stories that reflect your cause, making it easier to pull from when creating bids.
- Engaging Beneficiaries in the Process: Learn how to involve your beneficiaries in the storytelling process, ensuring their voices are authentically represented.
- Writing Effective Hook Points: Discover techniques for creating powerful hook points that captivate funders and convey the urgency and importance of your cause.
This is a 1-hour workshop, commissioned by the This is Us project, which is funded by Westmorland and Furness Council and UK Government and delivered by Directory of Social Change (DSC). It is designed for small charities and voluntary community groups delivering services in Westmorland and Furness only.
