Best Practice in Volunteer Management Session 2 – Planning for Volunteers and Being Inclusive

Join us over a series of 4 sessions to discover more about the key principles of best practice in volunteer management and how you can implement these to support, retain and recognise volunteers who support your work and activities. Get top tips, tools, templates and share ideas and experiences to help you shape effective volunteer management processes in your organisation. 

We know that volunteers are pivotal in helping many local organisations deliver wide ranging support and services to local communities and indvidiuals. The 4 sessions are designed to help you create a positive volunteer journey focusing on developing a sound vision and strategy as well as offering support around planning, volunteer recruitment and ensuring volunteers are supported and recognised.

The course is made up of 4 sessions each lasting 2.5 hours which are free for VCSE and non-profits.

Session 2

Planning for Volunteers and Being Inclusive 

Join us for a session packed with tips, tools and resources to support with planning for volunteers as well as the steps you can take as a Volunteer Lead to ensure a more inclusive approach to volunteering within your organisation

This Session will cover:

  • The importance of planning for where and why you need volunteers before you start the recruitment process
  • Protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010
  • Key documents and policies to underpin planning for volunteers
  • Barriers to volunteering and steps that can be undertaken to overcome these
  • An outline of the key principles of effective volunteer inclusion
  • The steps you can take as a Volunteer Lead to support good practice when planning to recruit volunteers to your organisation

The Training is delivered online using Zoom.

For each session you will need:

  • Computer or laptop with the ability to use Zoom
  • Internet
  • Pen and paper

You don’t have to attend all 4 sessions, but we do encourage it if you can as each session build on previous knowledge gained.

Session 3: Recruiting Volunteers (24th of July)- Join us for a session packed with tips, tools and resources to support the smooth running of your volunteer recruitment processes and the steps you can take as a Volunteer Lead to ensure your organisation is effective in attracting more volunteers to your organisation. Session 4: Supporting and recognising volunteers (11th of September)- Join us for a session packed with tips, tools and resources which focuses on the importance of supporting and recognising volunteers within your organisation. By the end of the session, you will be equipped to lead and support on improving how you both recognise and support volunteers to ensure a positive and valued experience. This event is part of our This Is Us project, made possible by Westmorland and Furness Council through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Bedrock Basics programme funded through Sellafield and supported by Cumbria Community Foundation . Priority for bookings will be given to organisations in Westmorland and Furness and West Cumbria and who are Cumbria CVS Members.
