Exploring a New Angle: Social Media Strategy Training at Keswick Museum

Emily Wilson, our South Lakes & Furness Development Officer, reports on a recent training session she delivered on Social Media:

Stepping slightly outside my usual focus on environmental work, I recently delivered a tailored social media training session for staff and volunteers at Keswick Museum.

Drawing on experience from previous roles, I designed a session that helped the team reflect on their values, understand their audience, and explore how social media can support the museum’s mission in a strategic, accessible way.

Collaborative Learning Through Small Group Work

The small group format created a relaxed and open space where everyone felt comfortable sharing ideas. We used persona sheets to explore different audience demographics and stakeholder mapping to identify key community connections.

  • Participants contributed ideas freely and shaped the session
  • Persona sheets helped explore audience needs and motivations
  • Stakeholder mapping revealed opportunities for deeper engagement

Mind Mapping for Values-Led Planning

We used mind maps to visually connect values, audiences, and content ideas. Mind maps encouraged open, visual thinking.

This creative approach helped participants see how their values—like inclusion, heritage, and curiosity—could guide future social media planning.

What Keswick Musuem had to say:

“The training was very good and informative, with some great chat and ideas shared by everyone who attended. It was well organised and really valuable. Thanks again to Emily, Gabi and Cumbria CVS—always helpful and full of insight!”
