Susan’s Farm is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to join our small staff team as an Outdoor Learning Coordinator delivering visits and short tailored programmes to schools, using the outdoors, the natural environment, and the farm to engage with the young people particularly those who are disengaging from school

We are looking for an inspiring person to lead the development of the school’s education programme at Susan’s Farm for young people. The post holder will deliver an engaging and stimulating programme of activities under the new overarching theme of ‘Explore and Engage: Learning through Nature’. You will be responsible for designing, promoting, recruiting, and delivering these programmes to an agreed target primarily as short-term interventions for young people who are who are at risk of being excluded.

This is a 30 hour a week post (0.8 hours pro rata). We offer a salary of £29,796 pro rata with 32 days annual leave including bank holidays and are committed to the development of our staff. (if the preferred candidate does not have all the essential skills, we may offer a development role starting at £27,500 pro rata).

Susan’s Farm is an energetic organisation delivering a broad range of activities. Our charitable purpose is to transform people’s lives through learning and therapeutic experiences on an organic working livestock farm.

Susan’s Farm is based in Houghton, a vibrant village 3 miles from Carlisle. We deliver our educational activities on site as well as on the other half of our farm near Armathwaite and for a neighbouring farmer at Aglionby. We have a small learning centre at Houghton and work closely with Cumbria Wildlife Trust whose Northern office is on land adjacent to our farm.

We have three main strands of delivery: school visits, alternative provision visits and placements, and care farmer placements. Our farm is a beef and sheep organic and Pasture for Life -certified Farm. We also have hens and some horticultural activity. Our farm produce is sold direct to the customer.

Susan’s Farm is a registered charity converting from a CIC in 2019.  Before that our founder, Susan Aglionby ran the farm, including educational activities, over a period of more than 20 years. Over the last six years considerable effort has been devoted to professionalising the organisation and our delivery work.
