Are you passionate about working with young people and ready to lead a fun, engaging summer programme in rural Cumbria? Northern Fells Group is looking for a Lead Youth Worker to plan, coordinate and deliver our summer youth scheme for primary school-aged children across the Northern Fells area.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to combine hands-on youth work with leadership responsibility.

You will begin in June by planning and organising the summer programme, before moving into delivery during the school holidays. You will lead sessions, manage two Youth Workers and ensure activities are safe, inclusive and enjoyable for all young people involved.

Working across Rosley, Caldbeck and surrounding communities, you will help create opportunities for young people to connect, build confidence and have a memorable summer.

What you’ll be doing

  • Planning and coordinating the summer youth programme
  • Organising venues, resources and activities
  • Leading engaging youth sessions for primary school-aged children
  • Managing and supporting two Youth Workers
  • Creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Coordinating registrations and attendance records
  • Managing rotas and supporting programme administration
  • Communicating with parents and partners where needed
  • Contributing to end-of-programme feedback and evaluation

Who we’re looking for

  • We’re looking for someone who is:
  • Passionate about working with young people
  • Confident leading activities and managing a small team
  • Organised and able to coordinate multiple elements of a programme
  • Adaptable, energetic and positive
  • A strong communicator with good interpersonal skills

Experience working in youth work, education or community settings is essential, along with experience planning and delivering activities for young people.

A full driving licence and ability to travel across rural locations is desirable.

Why this role matters

Young people in rural areas can face limited access to activities during school holidays.

This programme provides safe, welcoming spaces where young people can meet others, try new things and build confidence. As Lead Youth Worker, you will play a key role in making this happen and ensuring a positive experience for everyone involved.
