Storytelling for Fundraising for Charities and Community Groups

Two Part Online Training – Thursday 5th December and Thursday 12th December 2024

Cumbria CVS has commissioned this free training to give non-profit groups the tools to successfully apply for funding in an increasingly competitive field.  Storytelling is an often overlooked but powerful tool, that may improve your grant fundraising success. In attending our course, you will learn how to use real-life stories from your beneficiaries to show how your organisation has had a positive impact on their lives.  You can access insights, crucial information, and friendly advice from the expert trainer. 

Who is it for? 

Any charitable, voluntary and not-for-profit groups in Westmorland and Furness, who are looking to develop storytelling as a skill to enhance grant funding applications.  It is open to anyone, whether you are new to fundraising or wish to build on your experience. 

What is covered? 

• Explore the ‘importance of why’ and getting down to the heart of the issue you are talking about. 

• Look at the practical processes of where to source valuable information and storing it within your organisation. 

• Understand what different types of donors are looking for and how to incorporate your story telling to full effect. 

• Discuss what makes a good story and finding the right balance of emotion and statistics. 

• Build storytelling techniques and confidence through practice. 

• Review your stories and the stories of attendees with expert feedback. 

What to expect: 

The course consists of 2 x 2 hour online Zoom sessions, with a mixture of group work and individaul tasks with opportunities to ask questions.  You are expected to attend both sessions. 

By the end of the course, you will have been provided with the information you need to use storytelling for fundraising.  This is complemented by our other two training courses: Bid Writing and Using Data.
