South Lakes Volunteering Fair

Date:

Time:

What: South Lakes Volunteering Fair

When: Sunday 5th October, 11.00am – 3.00pm (stall set-up from 10.00am for organisations)

Where: Kendal Leisure Centre

Your organisation is invited to attend the South Lakes Volunteering Fair, organised by Cumbria CVS and Age Friendly South Lakeland. This event aims to attract those that are interested in finding out more about becoming a volunteer and local volunteering opportunities. This event is open to the public and provides an opportunity to find out more about volunteering across South Lakes.

This event is taking place in conjunction with the International Day of Older Persons, and will be part of a day of activities at Kendal Leisure Centre organised by Age Friendly South Lakeland, and aimed at older adults (although everyone of any age will be welcome to attend). In addition to the Volunteering Fair, the day will include information stalls, a Macmillan Coffee Morning, Bingo, workshops, and other activities.

Organisations attending are encouraged to sign up to the Age Friendly Employer Pledge, as a chance to review how welcoming and accessible they are to older volunteers. The Age Friendly Employer Pledge is a UK-wide initiative by the Centre for Ageing Better that commits employers to taking at least one action annually to create a more age-diverse and inclusive workplace, particularly for older workers. By signing the pledge, organizations demonstrate a commitment to combating ageism, valuing the skills and experience of older employees, and improving conditions for people in their 50s and 60s, ultimately contributing to a thriving, multigenerational workforce. More information here: https://ageing-better.org.uk/employer-pledge . Any organisation interested in finding out more about being age friendly is invited to a workshop with Age Friendly South Lakeland on Tuesday 26th August at Kendal Leisure Centre 10am – 12pm, refreshments provided – contact Katie Gatt for more information Katherine.gatt@gll.org .

By attending the Volunteering Fair volunteers will find out about which local organisations are looking to recruit new volunteers, the wide range of local volunteering opportunities available, when and where volunteers are needed and how to become a volunteer.

We kindly ask that each organisation that attends brings displays, posters, leaflets, information, and application forms to hand out to potential volunteers. We ask organisations to attend for the full event and to talk to any potential new volunteers about:

*What your organisation does

*Volunteering opportunities available

*Time commitment

*Training & support available

*How volunteers can register to become a volunteer

Places will be confirmed after the closing date of Friday 5th September. Please book early to allow time for publicity and posters to be produced for the event.

We ask all organisations to register their volunteer opportunities on the Volunteering in Cumbria Portal as we will be using this to promote the opportunities represented at the Fair (https://volunteering.cumbriacvs.org.uk)
