Introducing the Furness For You online neighbourhood support hub

We are excited to announce the launch of Furness For You – a free, comprehensive online neighbourhood support hub designed to support members of the community across the Furness area.

Launching in early October 2024, this support hub will connect local people to vital services, activities and events all in one place. If people are interested in volunteering, it will also signpost to those opportunities.

What’s it for?

Whether you’re looking for help with health and wellbeing, access to arts and crafts or community groups, or need guidance with benefits and learning new skills, Furness For You is here to assist. The platform builds on the success of the Furness For You project, where ten local partners* came together to tackle loneliness and provide tailored, one-to-one support for people struggling with loneliness. With our new easy-to-navigate website, we’re expanding this vision to offer even more ways for the community to stay connected and supported.

Who’s behind it?

The website aims to include a wide range of services, all accessible through the directory, to meet the diverse needs of Furness communities. It has been championed by Westmorland and Furness Council’s Furness Locality Board.

Working closely with communities, councillors, and volunteer groups, the Furness Locality Board collaborates to ensure local voices are heard in shaping services and policies that benefit the community. The Board’s support teams are dedicated to addressing the key issues that matter most to the residents in and around Barrow-in-Furness.

Councillor Tony Callister, Chair of Furness Locality Board, said: “The Furness For You project has already created positive outcomes for individuals, our local communities and the partners involved. We really wanted to build on this and by working together to create this fantastic new, free online resource, we can continue to support our communities in staying connected and accessing opportunities.”

Cumbria CVS has been charged with overseeing the development and operation of the new Furness For You directory. Gabriela Lipska, District Manager Westmorland & Furness for Cumbria CVS, says: “The directory will be a go-to resource for finding the support and connections people in Furness need to thrive in their communities. We are delighted to offer our project management skills to deliver and administer the website, alongside web developer Furness Media”.

Stay tuned for more details as we prepare for the directory’s launch in early October!
