High Sheriff visits

Cumbria CVS staff and trustees welcomed Alan McViety, High Sheriff of Cumbria, to our Carlisle office recently, to talk about our work and how we can collaborate to support the sector.

Alan’s key focus for his year as High Sheriff is to support “Youth Opportunities”. After a tour of the building and lunch, Alan received a presentation about our work, followed by a discussion and Q&A with staff and trustees.

Cumbria sees a new High Sheriff appointed annually, and Alan took on the role at the end of March 2022 at a ceremony in Appleby. Regarding Youth Opportunities, the High Sheriff says on his website that “The last two years during the pandemic have been difficult for everyone but particularly so for students in education and those embarking on their careers. I would like to focus on both recreational activities and educational opportunities. The young are our future and we need to not only pass on our skills and knowledge but understand their concerns and aspirations for the future.”
