News – we will be using this as an opportunity to pick out particularly important/interesting articles from our most recent Bulletin and/or highlighting information that might be time sensitive.

Events – we will be using this as an opportunity to highlight events of interest to organisations interested in health and care issues including Network events. Most of these will be local Cumbria events but some maybe regional.

Opportunities – we will be using this to highlight health and care focused funding and project opportunities, representative roles and working groups you might want to get involved in and much more. These will focus on Cumbria but may also include regional opportunities.

NORTH CUMBRIA NHS area – Information Toolkit to encourage COVID vaccinations

A new NHS Programme designed to spot the early signs of lung cancer is being rolled out in North Cumbria.

The programme will see smokers and former smokers aged 55-74 being invited for an appointment that will check the health of their lungs.

Patients registered with James St practice in Workington are among the first to be invited to have the health check.  Patients registered at the remaining practices across North Cumbria will receive invites from late 2024 to early 2025.

NORTH CUMBRIA NHS area Welcome to the Boost learning academy

The NEW Boost learning academy has been launched, a new training area for everyone working or volunteering across the North East and North Cumbria.

The academy is designed to support continuous learning and improvement, helping to deliver the best care possible to the people of our region.

The Boost learning academy offers a wide range of courses, seminars, and events tailored to our region’s specific needs. It focuses on leadership, improvement, and understanding health factors, bringing together local people to gain essential knowledge and skills.

If you were an existing member of Boost and/or the MECC training platform, your details have now been added to the learning academy. To access to your account, please:

  1. Go to the sign-in page
  2. Select the ‘forgot password’ option
  3. Type in the email address you used for your old account
  4. Follow the instructions in the email you will receive
  5. Take 5 minutes to update your profile information, answering a few additional questions for evaluation purposes

Please note that the old Boost event booking area will be closing down in the coming months. If you haven’t already done so, please download your event certificates from your profile page.

We encourage you to take some time to explore the Boost learning academy today. Join us in our mission to create better health and wellbeing for all. Together, we can make a significant impact across our region.

COUNTYWIDE area – Health Literacy Awareness session

Ever wondered what health literacy is all about? Want to know why it matters and how it can help? 

This session will give you a short introduction to health literacy. You will find out what health literacy is and what you can do to make it better. You’ll learn how it affects patients, carers, families and the wider community and how better health literacy can make it easier for everyone to engage in their health and wellbeing.

CARLISLE area – 🌿 You’re Invited to the Green Hub Open Day! 🌿

We’re excited to invite you to a day dedicated to sustainability and community at the Green Hub Open Day! Join us on Wednesday 30th October, from 12 PM to 3 PM at Garden Life, Carlisle for an inspiring harvest festival that promises to ignite your passion for a greener future.

This is more than just an event; it’s a chance to dive into our innovative sustainable initiatives, meet fellow eco-enthusiasts, and discover how we can all contribute to a healthier planet. NORTH CUMBRIA area – Longtown ICC Meet the third sector event

Longtown ICC Meet the third sector event

Thursday 23rd January 2025 12 noon to 2pm (set up from 11.30am)

Longtown Community Centre, Arthuret Road, Longtown, CA6 5SJ

Space for 30+ organisations – a great opportunity for third sector groups to connect with colleagues from health and care services and to showcase their services. Third sector groups/organisations are to book a table space at the event .

This event has been requested by statutory sector staff from Longtown ICC. Staff from NCIC (including district nurses, OT’s, physios, specialist respiratory etc services) local GP surgeries (including nurses, care navigators, social prescribers) CNTW, ASC (including Reablement & social work staff), HAWCs, local home care agencies & care homes, NWAS, CHOC etc will all be invited and encouraged to attend by their managers (staff in these categories do not need to book).

We are keen to get 20 or more local organisations together for the event.

SOUTH CUMBRIA NHS area – Mental Health Discharge Planning – Environment for Change Survey

The ICB, LSCFT, and LCC are working to look at the practice of planning and discharging people from mental health hospitals in order to understand, evaluate and improve people’s experiences and ascertain if people are discharged to their usual place of residence.

The aims of this project are to:

  • Understand the current Discharge model and its outcomes
  • Understand the current value position and opportunities.
  • Understand the environment for change within the system.
  • Identify system-wide priority focus areas.
  • Outline key next steps to address the focus areas.

They are asking local leaders in this area to complete a 10-minute survey to capture the opinions and experiences of staff in your area.

NORTH CUMBRIA NHS area – FREE poverty awareness training

A new series of poverty awareness health webinars launch next week – 7 October, 12pm – 1.00pm. In this session by Children North East, you’ll find about Poverty Proof methodology and ethos, and the diverse experiences of those children and young people and families who are experiencing poverty, plus discussions about ways in which we unintentionally promote stigma or limit people’s access to opportunities.
