An award of £148k will help South Copeland voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations to become more sustainable and resilient.

The award, to Cumbria CVS, will pay for a new Development Officer for the next three years, with the role providing support to organisations to help them develop and deliver quality services, access funding to sustain their activity, and recruit and train volunteers.

Ged McGrath, Chair of South Copeland GDF Community Partnership, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to award £148,824 from the Community Investment Fund to Cumbria CVS. The recruitment of a new part-time development officer will be a positive advancement for the community in South Copeland – the support provided will enable local voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise groups to develop their sustainability and resilience, ensuring the vitality of our local groups in the future.

“Community Investment Funding is available to projects, schemes and initiatives in South Copeland as the area takes part in the search for a suitable site for a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF). To find out more and apply, please visit the South Copeland GDF Community Partnership website.”

Cumbria CVS are now recruiting for the new Development Officer, and are looking for people already linked with or working with local communities, with the position offering a development opportunity and a chance to help make a real difference to the local community.

The locally based, tailored, support they will provide aims to build on the skills and talents already within communities and organisations across South Copeland, enabling them to flourish. They will also help support local groups to apply to a range of funders to support their local communities and their activities.
