Carlisle Community Groups Network plan gets overwhelming positive response

Attendees in a theatre listening to a speaker at a podiumMore than 50 representatives, from over 30 organisations, came together earlier this month to look at local interest for developing a community groups network across Carlisle.

The idea of a network has been in discussions for a while and Cumbria CVS, working with Carlisle City Council and Cumbria County Council, invited community groups to meet for a hybrid event at Tullie House to see if there would be an interest in working together on develop it.

The overwhelming response from the participants was that they wanted this to happen and although there were some challenges to do it, the organisations that came along had some clear ideas on what the network should be and what they don’t want it to be.

It was really important for members that the network was centered and led by the needs of community groups, and that it had the potential to be a real celebration of community work with a shared voice.

If you are a community organisation in the Carlisle area and want to get involved in the network please do get in touch with Niall.mcnulty@cumbriacvs.org.uk for more information.
