Over the past five months, our Mid Copeland Development Officer, Kate Grove, has been building connections, offering practical support and helping strengthen local voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise groups. In this update, Kate reflects on the progress made so far, the support needs emerging across the area, and the opportunities ahead for organisations.

From 1st September 2026, changes under the Crime and Policing Act 2026 will remove the supervision exemption from the definition of regulated activity with children. This means some unpaid roles, including volunteering activities such as teaching, training, caring for, instructing or supervising children, may count as regulated activity even when the volunteer is supervised.
