Volunteer and Community Engagement Co-ordinator
Organisation: South Lakes Action on Climate Change
Salary Details: Freelance - £22 an hour - equivalent to 20 hours a week
Closing date for applications: 17 Jul 2026
Waste into Wellbeing is a Kendal based food waste charity. We collect surplus food from local retailers and suppliers and redistribute it through our larder, Kendal People’s Café and community food events. As a volunteer-led charity, we are currently recruiting a ‘Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator’ to play a key role in supporting the 150+ volunteers who make Waste into Wellbeing possible.
The role will include supporting our volunteers and promoting our volunteer opportunities; strengthening and building on community relationships; supporting our fundraising initiatives and organising and hosting our food hero events. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with good communication skills who is happy to act as a visible and approachable presence both for our volunteers and the local community.
The volunteer and community engagement coordinator will work collaboratively with a volunteer group who manage the day to day running; trustees who govern and oversee the project and a team of three other freelance contractors who individually are responsible for kitchen management, food logistics and admin.
This role is a chance to positively act for the local community by helping to address the issues of food waste, food poverty and climate change. The governance and hosting of Waste into Wellbeing is through South Lakes Action on Climate Change (SLACC).
The role is a freelance contract, initially for one year. This is a hybrid position split between remote working and Waste into Wellbeing, Kendal. There will be occasional evening and weekend work.
