Do you want to help improve health and wellbeing in your community? Do you have lived experience and a passion for making a difference?

Cumbria CVS, in partnership with Cumberland Council’s Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC), is looking for Community Co-Researchers (CCRs) to support vital, community-led research across the area.

Community Co-Researchers (CCRs) are hosted by Cumbria CVS and work as part of Cumberland Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) to design and deliver research focused on tackling health inequalities in Cumberland. Cumberland HDRC is part of the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) and hosted by Cumberland Council.

You don’t need any prior research experience. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. What matters most is your willingness to listen, learn, and share your insight to help ensure research reflects real lives and local voices.

Our CCR’s are linked to the 8 Community Panels across Cumberland. We are looking for two CCR’s to join the team, one in the Fells and Solway Community Panel area and one in the South Cumberland Community Panel area.

Job Purpose

As a Community Co-Researcher, you’ll play a key role in:

  • Supporting research that reduces health inequalities
  • Ensuring research reflects real-life experiences
  • Helping build stronger, more research-active communities
  • Influencing local policy and services through community insight

Key Duties

  • Work with local residents to identify priorities and shape research questions
  • Share lived experience to help design relevant, inclusive research
  • Support others in your community to take part in research activities
  • Help plan and deliver local research projects in partnership with HDRC staff
  • Attend and contribute to co-production and engagement sessions
  • Gather stories, feedback and insights from community members
  • Support engagement across different communities of place, interest and identity
  • Represent community perspectives in meetings and decision-making discussions

Training and Support

All CCRs will receive:

  • Full training in community research methods
  • Ongoing support from the HDRC engagement team in relation to the research
  • Ongoing pastoral and practical support from Cumbria CVS
  • Regular opportunities for peer learning, reflection and personal development

You don’t need to be a professional researcher. We welcome people with lived experience who are:

  • Curious, open-minded, and willing to learn
  • Good communicators and team players
  • Respectful of different views and experiences

This role could suit people from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with experience of health challenges, inequality, or community involvement.

Successful applicants must attend the Community Co-researcher Induction training and mandatory role specific training- the CCR Training will be held  on Friday 7th August 2026 and Friday 21st August 2026. The CCR Induction (CVS) will be held on Thursday 13th August 2026.
