Chief Exec celebrates students’ graduation

Last week, I was honoured to be invited by the University of Cumbria to attend a graduation ceremony at Carlisle Cathedral.

It was a wonderful celebration of the students’ achievements – not least given the extraordinary conditions that they dealt with throughout their studies. Vice-Chancellor Professor Julie Mennell gave an inspiring address – a central theme of which focussed on the importance of ‘giving back’ to society. It struck me that the students were likely to have gained enormously valuable experience and personal resilience in coping with the conditions the pandemic created – and will have witnessed the work and sacrifices made by many emergency workers, carers and volunteers.

We are working with the University to further develop volunteering skills and opportunities, as well as collaborating on health system development.
