Celebrating Social Prescribing Day
March 24, 2026
On March 26th, we will be celebrating Social Prescribing Day. If you are planning any events let us know and we will share them on.
Cumberland Council’s Social Prescribing team is hosting two events: in Maryport and Millom libraries, from 11am -2pm. There will be free health checks and activities as well as loads of community groups sharing their amazing work.
For those in the Barrow area, Active Cumbria is working with social prescribers to host the ‘Big Barrow Clean Up‘ setting off from the Town Hall at 1.45pm.
If you can’t get to any of those, there is an online event, with our very own Sarah Penn, Halth Partnerships Support Officer, on the billing. You can book on here The Power of People: a celebration of social prescribing across the North East and North Cumbria.
Social Prescribing webpages
And in exciting news, we have launched a Social Prescribing Approaches North Cumbria webpage. It includes information about what social prescribing is, who does it in North Cumbria and all about the work of the Social Prescribing Steering Group.
Report and launch event
If that isn’t exciting enough, at the end of April the steering group will be publishing a report into social prescribing-type approaches: ‘Passion, Connection and Community: Person-centred neighbourhood care in North Cumbria’. It includes 8 case studies highlighting the amazing contribution link workers make to our communities and individuals. Don’t worry about missing it – we will be shouting about it everywhere!
Come along to our launch event on 7th May at Harraby Community Centre, Carlisle – join us to mark the launch of the report, which showcases the power of community-based, holistic, link-worker based health and wellbeing support. Book you place here
