About this event

Storytelling helps bring your work and case studies to life by adding personality behind the issue and statistics.  Join us with Craig from Neck of the Woods, as he explores the reasons behind telling stories, so that you can enhance your stories in the future and connect with beneficiaries and donors in a meaningful way.

This session will:

  • Explore storytelling as a general principle, the history and science behind it
  • Look at a formula for determining what stories to tell, and advice on using storytelling to share lived experiences.
  • Provide practical advice on how to share a story effectively including the key components of a good story
  • Provide advice on producing stories through lived experiences
  • Examine how stories can be used to reach broader and larger audiences.
  • By the end of the session attendees with have a deeper understanding of the mechanics of good storytelling.

Suitable for: those new to managing communications in not-for-profit organisations and community groups, those with a general interest in storytelling for their organisation and those with fundraising responsibilities within their organisation.

About the trainer

Neck of the Woods Films are a social enterprise working in film and animation production. Over the years they have worked with socially positive organisations and charities of all shapes and sizes. Throughout that time they have developed a unique way of telling through stories through the media of film and animation. As one of the chief storytellers at the company, Craig McDougall has a wealth of experience in telling stories that connect with people and offers this training in order to help small charities and non-profits do the same.
