Hitting the Headlines

Over the last few years, there have been a few incidents that have brought the work of the charity sector to the attention of the media and the wider world – often for what could be regarded as the wrong reasons.  These incidents naturally need to be exposed and dealt with, but as a result they often cause a lot of unwelcome publicity for the sector. Whilst the charities concerned usually have a strong media machine to help manage and handle their internal and external communications, most voluntary and community organisations do not.

But the sector has heart and has many good news stories to share and so it is imperative that we all take every possible opportunity to promote the great work that is taking place all around us, bringing it to the attention of the wider world. During the last 12+ months, Cumbria CVS has provided training to local groups around the issue of (positive) publicity looking at Social Media, Storytelling and Managing Publicity (including during a crisis) and will continue to do so, encouraging them to take a more pro-active approach.

Here at Cumbria CVS, we would like to share more good news stories and so will be using a variety of tools, including this Ebulletin and our website, to promote our work and services and reach a wider audience. We will use case studies to help illustrate the difference that our support can make to local groups, organisations and individuals and also to promote the work we undertake with partners.

We hope to also increase awareness of the wide range of other services Cumbria CVS offers including office accommodation, room hire, payroll, accounts management, training, funding advice, DBS disclosures. Remember to contact us or visit our website, if you would like any further details.

Keep up the good work!

Best wishes
