Cancer Chat Cafes
The Living With and Beyond Cancer project is trialling a series of drop in chat groups between now and the end of March for people who are affected by cancer. Our hope is that by bringing people together in a friendly and informal way it will encourage a feeling of commonality and allow people to speak freely about their experiences.  Trained and supportive volunteers will be there to host, listen and link people to local help and support when required.

In Carlisle the sessions will be held on the first Monday of every month with the next session on Monday 6 April 2020 at Morton Manor between 1pm and 3pm.  We are delighted to be partnering with Eden Valley Hospice which will bring together a wider range of skills to benefit those attending.

In Penrith the session will be held on the fourth Monday in every month – the next session will be on Monday 23 March 2020 at the Wellbeing Hub, Penrith Hospital between 9:30am and 11:30am.

In Cockermouth the next session will be held on Tuesday 17 March 2020 at the Wild Zucchini Bistro, Station Road between 3pm and 5pm.

In Whitehaven the next drop-in session at the Library, will be held on Tuesday 31 March 2020 and subsequently the last Tuesday of April and May between 11am and 12noon

Volunteers
This project is also currently looking for volunteers – people with exceptional listening skills and empathy. There are a range of opportunities available including telephone and face to face support. These are challenging but rewarding roles that will suit people with a health or care background and/or first hand expereince of the effects of cancer.
We are working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.
