Celebrations with Inspiring Barrow

The Inspiring Barrow Kick Start programme comes to the end of its second year this month with children in Year 7 from three secondary schools (St Bernard’s RC High School, Walney School and Furness Academy) completing their 8-week programme. The children have taken part in a series of activities designed to improve their self- esteem, confidence, teamwork, and emotional resilience. One of the highlights of the programme is the half-term trip to Kepplewray outdoor education centre in Broughton-in-Furness.

The children from all three schools shared in beautiful weather whilst taking part in canoeing, archery and crate stacking.

The children were rewarded for their hard work at a ceremony that took place at The Forum (Barrow) last Friday (29 June) where they all received certificates of completion and some received extra recognition for showing improvement in the area’s mentioned above.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Barrow were on hand to award the certificates, with the special awards being presented by Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant, Mrs Anne Diss MBE. The guest speaker on the evening was Mr Tony Keen, trustee of Cumbria Community Foundation.

The Kick Start programme will enter its third year next academic year with the addition of Ulverston Victoria High School.
