Volunteering Community Skills for Carlisle

Cumbria CVS has teamed up with Botcherby Community Centre to deliver an exciting free five day course for those interested in opportunities for volunteering in the city.

A new course is due to start soon at the Centre that will give participants the chance to find out about local volunteering opportunities, how they can get involved in volunteering and improve their skills and prospects.

Skills in Community Volunteering is a free 5 day course funded by the European Social Fund through the Skills Funding Agency. “It is aimed at adults aged 19 and over who are unemployed or not in work.” Explained Helen Fisher, Manager at Botcherby Community Centre.

“Sessions will run Monday to Friday from 9.30am – 3pm. As well as learning about skills for work and volunteering, the week includes visits to local voluntary organisations to hear and see at first hand the experiences of other volunteers. People will have the chance to find out how they can get involved and there will be opportunities to volunteer at the end of the programme.”

“The course will run three times, so hopefully there will be a date to suit learners,” said Mrs Fisher. “We think the days will be exciting with the chance to learn new skills and go out and experience volunteering where it happens, in the community. We’ve teamed up with Cumbria CVS to deliver this programme and are looking forward to it.”

Skills in Community Volunteering will take place at Botcherby Community Centre on the following dates:

  • Monday 2nd to Friday 6th March
  • Monday 16th to Friday 20th March
  • Monday 13th to Friday 17th April

Lunch will be provided daily and travel expenses will be reimbursed. Childcare costs might also be available.
