Supporting you

Funding Support
Over the last 12 months, funding (advice) has been one of the main areas of support delivered by the CVS development team, accounting for 62% of enquiries dealt with and they already account for 67% of the enquiries for the first quarter of 2018. This may help to explain the continued popularity of our Funding Events, which we hold across the county throughout the year and which provide a great opportunity for local groups and organisations to liaise with local and national funders and access much needed funding advice and information. We were very pleased to see so many of you at the funding event at Kendal Rugby Club in late June and look forward to welcoming many more of you to Whitehaven next week.

The West Funding Event will take place on Thursday 12 July 2018 at Whitehaven Rugby Club (10am – 3pm) and will boast a range of funders including Cumbria Community Foundation, BBC Children in Need, the Big Lottery Fund and many more. We look forward to welcoming groups from both Copeland and Allerdale and are thankful to support from Copeland Community Fund towards this event. Please see Events section for further details and to book!

Remember, if you need funding support, information or advice, please contact you local Business Development Officer on 01768 800350.

Supporting Vulnerable People during Emergencies
On 28 June, Cumbria CVS organised an event on “Supporting Vulnerable People during Emergencies” – part of our Big Lottery Fund funded Rebuilding Together Programme, and a follow up to last November’s “Communities to COBR” event organised by project partner ACT.
Around 60 people came to the event at Rheged despite the fabulous weather outside – a mix of staff from statutory sector and voluntary organisations, volunteers from the larger community emergency response groups, and community members from across Cumbria.

The day included presentations from Colin Cox, Cumbria’s Director of Public Health, staff from Cumbria County Council, Cumbria CVS, the North Cumbria NHS and Communities – and covered practical experiences and information on how Cumbria coordinates the response to a major incident – along with plenty of time for more informal networking around tables and over lunch.

Feedback from the day has been very positive, and groups have asked for a follow up event in the Autumn – watch this space!

“Having been involved with the floods in 2009, I can honestly say how heartening it is to see how far things have come on with regards to community engagement and more importantly, communities being at the forefront of planning and development.” Cllr Claire Driver (Cumbria County Council)

“Many grateful thanks for a well organised, well run and very informative event. Having attended a few events involving Emergency/Flood themes, this one is high on the list for what people actually got out of it and felt comfortable about the subjects.” Joe Murray, Kendal Community Emergency Planning Group.
