Third Sector Representatives sought

Third Sector Representative for Cumbria LEP
Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (Cumbria LEP) is the strategic body through which Cumbria-wide economic activities, priorities and objectives are supported and coordinated. It is a business-led partnership between the public and private sectors, with responsibility for steering growth strategically in local communities.

Cumbria LEP is planning to appoint a third sector (voluntary, community and social enterprise sector) representative to its Board.

The selection for the position will be carried out through Cumbria Third Sector Network (which includes Cumbria Social Enterprise Partnership as one of its specialist networks) who will then nominate the successful individual as LEP Board member.

The third sector representative on the Cumbria LEP Board will need to fulfil the requirements of a private sector member of the Board. This means that the individual must hold a strategic position (senior staff or trustee) within an organisation registered with Companies House (for example, a Charitable Company).

They will also be required to undertake the roles required of all members of the Cumbria LEP Board, which are detailed in the role description, and to maintain a strong link to Cumbria Third Sector Network’s Executive group in order that they are able to represent the views of Cumbria’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 9 January 2019.
Date for Interviews: Wednesday 16 January 2019.

Cumbria Third Sector Network – Deputy Chair
Cumbria has a large and vibrant third sector, made up of organisations that play a huge role in the life of Cumbrian communities. These organisations range from community groups run entirely by volunteers to large local charities and social enterprises, some of which employ several hundred staff and have a multi-million pound turnover each year. From the volunteers running our village halls and mountain rescue teams, to the specialist staff working in our hospices and children’s centres, life in Cumbria quite simply wouldn’t be the same without them. The people of Cumbria are at the core – people giving and receiving support, and increasing the sustainability of our local economies, environment, culture and heritage.

Cumbria Third Sector Network brings these many diverse organisations together and provides a mechanism for involving them in the planning of local services. The network has mechanisms to select representatives onto Cumbria’s strategic partnerships, and to give the sector a voice to lobby and influence local partners. The network has existed since 2007, and now has a mature and robust relationship with many local statutory sector partners.

Cumbria Third Sector Network appoints its independent Chair from outside the network, and elects its Deputy Chair from within the network. A major part of the Deputy Chair role is to support the Chair with their in depth-knowledge of Cumbria’s Third Sector and the issues organisations face.

We are now recruiting for the Deputy Chair role, if you are interested please download the supporting documents below.

The deadline for applications is: Thursday 31 January 2019.
