Furness Future Leaders Academy

The delivery of the 2019 Furness Future Leaders Academy (FFLA)  – supported by Cumbria CVS – took place 29 July – 16 August. Almost 100 children attended each day for the full three weeks and took part in outdoor activities (both onsite and offsite), as well as classroom activities.  Dalton St Mary Primary School led on the delivery alongside teachers and teaching assistants from a number of other local schools supported by volunteers from BAE, Glaxo, CGP Books, Osted and Oxleys.  Our local MP John Woodcock also delivered a session for the children on how to promote a campaign you’re passionate about.

This year, the children chose to campaign about litter. After a lot of research and designing questionnaires, the children went out on the streets of Barrow with their campaign and at the celebration event showcased what they had learnt. The posters (printed by Oxleys) are now up around the town and local supermarkets and once the term starts will also be displayed in the schools.  FFLA and the litter campaign was also covered by the local paper and BBC Radio Cumbria.

The media workshops by CANDO FM certainly paid dividends as the children on the radio sounded like seasoned professionals.
