Inspiring Barrow

Inspiring Barrow has successfully secured funding from the Big Lottery fund to support the Kick Start programme over three years.
The Kick Start programme will focus on working with children who need support with confidence building, team work, communication and resilience.
In the first year, Kick Start will aim to work with children in school in Years 6, 7, and 8, who the schools feel would benefit from some support, with a view to expanding the programme over the subsequent two years.
The programme will also provide both the children and their parents the chance to interact with one another through a series of weekend and evening activities – which recently included a trip to Old Hall Farm in Bouth (during the half term), where they had the opportunity to see how a traditional farm worked.
The children will also be provided with opportunities to socialise with children from other schools and make new friends before the transition to secondary school.

From September to December 2016, the programme will work with Year 6 across eleven primary schools in Barrow.

In 2017, the programme will work with Years 7 and 8 and will aim to address many of the same issues but will also use a mentoring programme to help scaffold children through the difficult days of teenage life.
